The University of Iowa strives to provide market competitive salary rates to its employees, whether students, staff and/or faculty. The scheduled increases to the Johnson County minimum wage will not impact regular faculty or staff. 

Student employees at the UI currently average $9.66 per hour, which is already above the $9.15 minimum rate that will become effective in Johnson County on May 1, 2016. University employers will continue to monitor the wage rate necessary to hire and maintain student employees as the market adjusts to the new local wage levels and make adjustments as necessary. 

No immediate action is required of UI employers in anticipation of May 1. However, individual units may want to consider potential market changes in budgeting for the 2017 fiscal year.
