The Path Forward–Strategy Implementation Team met on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at 8 a.m. in room B5 Jessup Hall. Team members in attendance were: Barry Butler, Rod Lehnertz, Bruce Harreld, Tom Rocklin, Carroll Reasoner, Sue Curry, Georgina Dodge, Peter Snyder, Monica Madura, Matthew Watson, Jacob Simpson, Samantha Lange, Keith Carter, Dan Reed, Christina Bohannan, and Ted Yanecek. Also in attendance were Diane Slusarski and Cornelia Lang.
Barry distributed the minutes from the April 7, 2016 meetings of the SIT and OT. Barry also distributed the “golden wheel” around which the meeting agenda was organized. A new issue was raised between meetings – Financial Aid Model. A working group (expert team) will be formed to analyze this issue and will be composed of SIT members and other UI personnel. Barry distributed and reviewed an issue template – SIT 1: National Research Standing, a task force chaired by Dan Reed. A second issue template – SIT 2: URM Participation in Graduate/Professional Programs, a task force chaired by Georgina Dodge, was also distributed and reviewed. Team members engaged in discussion on these three topics. Teams addressing SIT 3 – Undergraduate Academic Experience (Tom Rocklin, Chair) and SIT 4 – Campus Inclusion/Climate (Georgina Dodge, Chair) are in beginning to examine the issues within their purview.
Barry distributed an email he and Tom Rocklin co-authored that was sent campus wide on May 2 regarding the 2016-21 Strategic Planning Development Group (SPDG). A preliminary strategic plan will be submitted to the Board of Regents by July 1, however after soliciting additional feedback, a final version will be submitted in October 2016. President Harreld emphasized a strategic plan should not be a static document, but strategic planning is a continual process.
